The death toll from this weekend’s massive earthquake in Nepal continues to rise. A Redding man who heads a ministry in Kathmandu reports that his organization is in dire need of help.
Gyan Pantha runs the Children Rescue Mission, which rescues children from being sold into India by human trafficking. The group currently serves 196 children with food and clothing. Pantha says their only source of shelter was significantly damaged in the quake.
“They have a crack in the foundation, and a crack in the wall, and the neighbor’s wall fell down and landed on our wall.”
The quake struck during a Saturday morning church service. Three people from his village were killed, with five injured. Ironically, Pantha says, he just held a fundraising banquet on Friday evening in Redding to raise funds for the ministry, but he says the damage to the building will substantially hurt their efforts. Pantha says he plans on going to Nepal as soon as possible.
“It will be purposed on this rescue and helping with whatever I could bring for the earthquake victims.”
