NSPR News Brief: June 8

Here's your daily briefing...

Chinese Partnering with California: Governor Jerry Brown has signed several “memorandums of understanding” with Chinese officials aimed at jointly developing cleaner technology. The agreements are non-binding, but could lead to greater cooperation.

Not just for government: Representatives from various privately held and publically traded companies based in California are also in China, and like Brown, they are also looking for business opportunities. According to organizers, electric vehicle makers, clean tech, finance and an auditing firm are among the industries represented.

Louder North State Voice: A long shot bid to scrap and reconstitute the California Senate is being pushed by North State Assemblyman James Gallagher. Gallagher says his proposal would give the North State more senators, making the Republican stronghold more relevant. To become reality, it would need super-majorities in both the senate and assembly, be approved by a majority of voters and somehow overcome the constitutional conception of ‘One-man, One-vote.’

Sears Shambles Toward Oblivion: Storied retailer Sears added another 72 locations to a list of 180 stores it plans on closing this year, including the location in Chico, according an internal list obtained and published by ‘Business Insider.’ Most of the stores on the closure list are part of the company’s Kmart brand, including locations in Sacramento, Manteca and Blythe.

And on the California Report: House Intelligence Committee member Adam Schiff comments on James Comey's testimony…A new poll shows who might become California's next Governor....and, a popular herbicide deemed unsafe by state regulators.
