Man Pleads No Contest In Chico Hit-Run Involving Police Vehicle

A man accused of leaving behind three injured people after he T-boned a police SUV and ran from the scene pleaded no contest, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Thursday.

Conrado Garcia, 23, was charged with felony hit and run resulting in injury after police say his speeding Buick ran a red light at Cypress and East Eighth streets in Chico and broadsided a police department Chevy Tahoe. The accident occurred May 16 at about 2 in the morning. The officer had to be extricated from the wreck.

The two female passengers in the Buick, ages 17 and 18, were also injured.

After disappearing on foot, Garcia surrendered about a day later to the California Highway Patrol. Ramsey noted that because of the delay, authorities were unable to determine if Garcia had been under the influence when the collision occurred.

Garcia was released pending a June 24 hearing.
