Fires: September 1

Cooler weather and a smattering of showers over the Mendocino range and Trinity Alps helped fire crews make solid progress against several major forest fires afflicting the Trinity Region:

·        Near Mad River and Hyampom, the Route Complex has been fully contained at 55 square miles.

·        Started by lightning a  month ago, the Mad River Complex is 58 square miles in size and is 95 percent contained.

·        North of Hyampom, firefighters have held the 45 square mile South Complex of fires in check for five days straight. Firefighters have built containment lines stretching 93 miles. The fire is 85 percent contained. All evacuations have been lifted.

·        Double-the-size and more voracious is the River Complex, north of Highway 299. Despite much effort, it’s continuing to spread daily. It’s now 108 square miles in size and is 45 percent contained. Evacuations and road closures have been lifted except a hard road closure on Denny Road between Quinby and Huddleston.

·        Near Hayfork, the Fork Complex is still holding at 57 square miles in size. It’s 97 percent contained. All road closures and evacuations for the Fork Complex have been lifted.

Further details on evacuations, road closures and Clean Air Shelters in the Trinity Region can be found on Trinity County’s website.

Elsewhere:

·        The Gasquet Complex is burning near US 199 east of Crescent City. It’s burned nearly 45 square miles and is now 39 percent contained. Officials report many cultural and archeological sites are threatened, along with endangered species. Firefighters say it will take seasonal rain to extinguish the blaze.

·        Farther south the Nickowitz Fire nearly 11 square miles in size and 55 percent contained.

Recently contained fires:

·         Horse Fire (Humboldt County) – Fully contained at 146 acres.

·        Kramer Fire (Lassen County) – Fully contained at 30 acres.
