Jason Mandly has long loved hiking, but he wished there were a single place he could go to mark all the varied California hiking trails he’s seen and plans to see. Not every twist and turn of every trail, but a big-picture overview.
That map will soon exist. His 40" by 60" California map complete with every recognized hiking trail will soon be funded through KickstarterSunday at noon.
He took advantage of crowdfunding for two reasons: first, with a lot of backers he will be able to disseminate the maps to lots of people.
“The higher the volume the lower the price. So that’s ultimately what this is going to do, is drive down the price,” he said.
And drive down the price it did. Mandly’s fundraising goal was $3,250 dollars. As of today, he’s surpassed that goal by more than $5,000.
What’s he going to do with all that extra funding? Print more maps of course. He says he hopes everyone who ends up with one will draw inspiration to hit the trail. That's what he plans on doing after he's done printing.
