Hear the latest news about North State performances, gallery shows, and art events, as well as interviews with artists and figures from the local arts scene.

This week on Weekend Showcase we visit Chico's James Snidle Fine Art Gallery to talk with David Hoppe, one of the three artists currently showing works there. We also preview songs from the Broadway musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" which opens at Chico Theater Company next week.

This week on Weekend Showcase, we ring in 2016 with musical theater songs and unusual pop songs, all about New Year's.

We celebrate the season Broadway-style with musical scenes from shows about Christmas.

We visit Chico's 1078 Gallery to hear from a couple of the artists showing works at the "Stories 4" exhibition.  We we also sample a brand new CD from the Northern California mezzo-soprano Molly Mahoney, an album of songs out of the Great American Songbook.

On WEEKEND SHOWCASE this week, we take you to Chico's Blue Room Theatre to hear from the director and cast of "The Other Place," an intriguing and emotionally devastating drama.  And we visit the Chico Art Center to talk with several artists who are displaying & selling their works in the center's Holiday Extravaganza.

This week on Weekend Showcase, we talk with the director and cast of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical classic at Chico Theater Company. We also visit with the organizers and artists from Chico's Avenue 9 Gallery who are having a reunion and art show. And we talk with one of the choreographers and with the lead ballerina of Chico Community Ballet's production, "Sleeping Beauty."

This week on Weekend Showcase, we talk with conceptual artist Danica Phelps about her current exhibit at Chico State's University Art Gallery. In her work, Phelps documents her everyday experiences in ways lyrical, literal, even ritualistic.

This week on Weekend Showcase we visit Butte College's stage production of the musical "Sweet Charity" to talk with the director and cast.  We also hear from Chico singer-songwriter Aamir Malik singing his song for the Thanksgiving season.

This week on Weekend Showcase we visit Paradise's Theatre on the Ridge to hear from the director and cast of the musical "Big Fish," and we go to Chico's 1078 Gallery to talk with artist J. Pouwels about his politically activist paintings.

This week, Weekend Showcase talks with two artists showing works at the Orland Art Center's show, "Fields, Farms, and Fantasies."  We also preview a song from "Big Fish, the Musical" which makes its North State debut in Paradise this week.
