Hear the latest news about North State performances, gallery shows, and art events, as well as interviews with artists and figures from the local arts scene.

On this Weekend Showcase, we visit with representatives from the Museum of Northern California Art (MoNCA), who tell us about the museum's "Fall in Love with MoNCA" event, a fundraiser which includes a photography exhibit showing north state buildings and structures. We also talk with the cast of the emotional drama/comedy at Theatre on the Ridge — "The Tin Woman," about a woman who is saved by a heart transplant and contacts the grieving family of the heart donor, an auto accident victim.

This week on Weekend Showcase we talk with Debra Lucero, coordinator of the 5th Annual Chico Silent Film Festival.  You'll hear about the fascinating line-up of rarely seen films showing Saturday & Sunday at the Chico Women's Club, projected in 16mm film and accompanied by live music played on a restored Steinway grand piano. We also talk with artist Peter Jodaitis who has an exhibit at Chico's 1078 Gallery, displaying works from throughout his 50-year career.  Many times, the subjects of his artwork come from great works of literature.


This week on Weekend Showcase we talk with Redding stage director Ken Hill about the new repertory theater company he has founded. We also talk with San Francisco artist Kara Maria whose paintings will be on display at Chico State University's Art Gallery.

Found object assemblage by David "Dragonboy" Sutherland

This week on Weekend Showcase we go to Chico's 1078 Gallery to talk with David "Dragonboy" Sutherland whose art blends paintings, drawings and found objects. We also visit the Blue Room Theatre in Chico to hear from the director and cast of the comedy/drama "Detroit" about suburbanites partying in the backyard as they're crushed by the recession.

This week on Weekend Showcase we visit Chico's James Snidle Fine Art Gallery to talk with David Hoppe, one of the three artists currently showing works there. We also preview songs from the Broadway musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" which opens at Chico Theater Company next week.

This week on Weekend Showcase, we ring in 2016 with musical theater songs and unusual pop songs, all about New Year's.

We celebrate the season Broadway-style with musical scenes from shows about Christmas.

We visit Chico's 1078 Gallery to hear from a couple of the artists showing works at the "Stories 4" exhibition.  We we also sample a brand new CD from the Northern California mezzo-soprano Molly Mahoney, an album of songs out of the Great American Songbook.

On WEEKEND SHOWCASE this week, we take you to Chico's Blue Room Theatre to hear from the director and cast of "The Other Place," an intriguing and emotionally devastating drama.  And we visit the Chico Art Center to talk with several artists who are displaying & selling their works in the center's Holiday Extravaganza.
