Weekend Party Violence In Chico Kills One, Injures Five More

A 22-year-old Chico State student was shot and killed early Saturday morning after a fight broke out at a party in Chico.

According to the Chico Enterprise-Record, the fight broke out at around 1 a.m. near the corner of Seventh and Oak streets, moving from a party to a nearby parking lot. That’s where the violence broke out that led to the death of Chico State senior Travis Taylor Powell. The fight also led to two other non-fatal shootings, two stabbings and a man being hit in the face with a glass bottle.

The E-R reports that friends of Powell who were at the party said that he was trying to stop his friends from fighting when he was shot. Powell was studying criminal justice at Chico State to reportedly become a game warden in his hometown of Gridley.

If you or anyone you know has photos, videos or information about the party, the police ask that you call the Chico Police Department’s detective bureau at 897-5820.
