Updating: Trinity County's Saddle Fire Winding Down

9:30 a.m. update (6/23):

A public meeting was held Sunday as officials prepared to turn management of the Saddle Fire back to local authorities. The fire is still 95% contained. Total acreage burned is still 1,550 acres. 

9:20 a.m. update (6/19):

In Trinity County authorities expect to have the Saddle Fire fully contained by Friday afternoon. At last report the wildfire was 95 percent contained. It’s burned about 1,550 acres between the town of Hyampom and Highway 299 since it was sparked by lightning on June 9.

8 a.m. update (6/18):

Work on the Saddle Fire is winding down. The 1,500-acre fire is now 90 percent contained. Fire crews worked on the fire until midnight last night, and patrols will now continue as necessary. Residents and visitors in Hyampom are cautioned that they may see smoke from unburned pockets of vegetation into the foreseeable future.

7 a.m. update (6/17): 

Firefighters working on suppressing the Saddle Fire in the Trinity Region had another successful day yesterday. As of Wednesday morning the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service is reporting that the fire is 80 percent contained. The fire’s size is currently 1,546 acres.

1:10 p.m. update (6/16):

Tonight will be fire crews' last full night shift at the Saddle Fire site, although patrols will continue as necessary throughout the area. There will be a community meeting at 3 p.m. at the Hyampom Volunteer Fire Department. 

8 a.m. update (6/16): 

The Saddle Fire in the Trinity Region seems to be well under control. At last report, Tuesday morning the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service reported that the fire showed little growth last night and is currently 65% percent contained.

The Saddle Fire has been burning near the town of Hyampom since last Tuesday after it was sparked by lightning. No structures have been destroyed and all mandatory evacuations have been lifted. The fire’s size is currently 1,530 acres.

8:50 a.m update (6/15):

Fire crews have started to contain the Saddle Fire, which has been burning in the Trinity Region northwest of the town of Hyampom since last Tuesday.

According to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service fire crews are starting to get a hold on the fire. So far it’s been 45% contained and all mandatory evacuations that were in place along County Road 311 (also known as Lower South Fork Road) have been changed to advisory evacuations.

No structures have been destroyed. At last report – this morning at 8:50 am – the size of the lighting-sparked fire was about 1,500 acres (almost 2.5 square miles).
