Updated 4:00 p.m.

“I need you to come out the front door of the house, Skip, with your hands up and empty. Skip, we are not going away. We need to talk.”

That’s Chico Police Officer Peter Durfee speaking through a megaphone earlier today. He was calling out to the final suspect from a robbery last night who had holed up in a house on the 1300 block of Chestnut Street. For now, we only know him as “Skip.”

He finally did come out. Police took him into custody right around 1 o’clock this afternoon.

All of the facts have not yet been released, but here’s what we know right now:

Two men carried out an armed robbery at 20th and Fair streets late last night — a little after 2:00 a.m. Shots were fired, but no one was hit.

An investigation led police to the home on Chestnut. Several teams, including the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force and a SWAT team, gathered outside.

Two people who were not suspects came out earlier today, and could be seen getting into cars with police. Chico Police Lieutenant Mike Nelson explains:

“They were voluntarily transported to the police department where they were interviewed by detectives and subsequently released.”

He added that they may have lived there or were just staying there temporarily.

When police began to arrive this morning, the other suspect tried to leave in a car. It was immediately stopped, and he was arrested.

It was many hours later that “Skip” surrendered and was arrested without incident.

We’ll bring you more details as they are available.
