Saddle Fire In Trinity County Forces Evacuations

About 100 Trinity County residents are being evacuated due to a fire that – at last report – had spread across 750 acres.

According to a press release from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service, a mandatory evacuation has been issued along Lower South Fork Road (also known as County Road 311) north of Big Slide Campground to Manzanita Ranch. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has also issued an advisory evacuation for the town of Hyampom.

An evacuation center is reportedly being set up by the Red Cross at Hayfork High School.

The fire is being called the Saddle Fire. It’s the largest of 15 fires that were started from lightning strikes in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest during Tuesday’s thunderstorms.
