It’s the last weekend of February and the Shasta Serenade morphs into the Rock-a-Barry Weekend show. This month I play the 1960 Grammy winner for song of the year by Percy Faith, and the second #1 hit by Connie Francis in that same year. Can you guess Connie’s first hit of 1960? I’ll tell you during the show. Then I swing back to 1956 with one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century, (Sassy) Sarah Vaughn, and follow with The Platters ’55 hit, “Only You.” From about 1950 to ‘58 Les Paul & Mary Ford sold more records than Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra combined and I explore their music with “Smoke Rings.” In hour 2 I’ve gathered a number of Country artists, most of whom crossed over onto the Pop and R&B Charts.
