Redding will hire Roger Moore as its new police chief, City Manager Barry Tippin said in a statement Wednesday.
Moore, already a police captain, has been on the force 22 years. The 47-year-old spent two years as a Shasta County deputy and four years as a police officer in the Santa Cruz County city of Watsonville.
Moore would replace interim and former police Chief Peter Hansen, if the move is approved by the City Council. The council is scheduled to discuss the hire Sept. 19.
