Redding Council Approves Buyer For Former Police Station

After months of talks and delayed offers, the Redding City Council has finally agreed upon a buyer for the former police station downtown. The building, which also housed a car dealership prior to its life as a cop shop, was sold Tuesday night to Equity Streams, which has plans to develop some sort of commercial venture, possibly including mixed retail and residential.

The building has been vacant since the police moved into a new facility two years ago. Since then, there have been several competing firms trying to purchase the building, including the McConnell Foundation, whose offer was withdrawn last month. Equity Streams will purchase the building and the adjacent parking lot for $650,000. The city may use some of that money to build a sobering center. Escrow is set to close in 90 days.
