Proposal To Move Redding Costco Halted

A proposed relocation of the Redding Costco from Dana Drive to Oasis Road appears to be dead. After nearly ten years of trying, the warehouse store sent a letter to city officials Tuesday stating that it is no longer interested in that location.

There was plenty of blame to go around at Tuesday’s Redding City Council meeting, with council member Gary Cadd blaming the City Attorney Kurt Starman, who in turn blamed Costco.

But the talk now is that Costco will be looking at other locations, including Anderson. Attorney Walt McNeil represents Levenson Development, which owns the property on Dana Drive. He says despite this setback, Oasis Road is still the best location for a new store.

“It’s better than going to Anderson, it’s better than going Knighton Road, it’s better than going to the end of Churn Creek — it’s better than going to any of those places,” he said. “It’s perfectly suited for that site, and it would be a great place for it to locate.”

Where the warehouse store may end up is still a mystery.
