Budget deal: There’s more money for education and indigent health care in the upcoming state budget, with spending plans scheduled for a vote tomorrow. Republicans were excluded from final negotiations, but were nevertheless successful in pushing a boost in Medi-Cal reimbursement rates.  

Spread ‘em around: California State University officials are being directed to find ways to fill seats at some of the 23-campus system’s less popular locations. Currently about 31,000 eligible applicants are turned away because the most popular campuses are at maximum enrollment.  

Fiji adds weight to Brown’s green initiative: The Prime Minister of Fiji praised Governor Brown and efforts to comply with the Paris Climate Accords, regardless of President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the treaty. Fijian leaders say their low-lying island nation east of Australia will vanish beneath the seas due to global warming, which Trump has dismissed as a hoax propagated by the Chinese.  

There is no sanctuary: At least not yet, but a bill that would make California the nation’s first “sanctuary state,” cleared the state Assembly’s Public Safety Committee. It sailed through the state Senate two months ago. A vote before the full Assembly has yet to be scheduled. 

Missing Gridley woman drowned: According to an autopsy, Alycia Yeoman, the 20-year-old Gridley woman who vanished March 30th drowned. Authorities are still trying to determine exactly how and why that happened. Yeoman’s car and phone were found near the Feather River almost a week after she disappeared. Her body was recovered May 7th.
