Firefighters continue to gain the upper hand on several forest and wildfires burning across California before hotter and more challenging conditions arrive later this week.
- The Saddle Fire northwest of Hyampom in Trinity County is still 95% contained. A public meeting was held Sunday as officials prepared to turn management back to local authorities. The fire has burned 1,550 acres. It was one of 31 fires sparked by lightning in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest on June 9th. The rest have been contained.
- A major wildfire continues to burn through San Bernardino National Forest northwest of Palm Springs. The Lake Fire has destroyed 500 structures and torched over 17,000 acres. It's currently 30% contained.
- South of Lake Tahoe a handful of other fires are burning in the Sierra Nevada range, including the 500 acre, 90% contained Sky Fire east of Mariposa.
