Man Dead Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Redding

A man who allegedly terrorized a Redding neighborhood with indiscriminate gunfire was shot and killed by police during a confrontation Tuesday night.

Authorities have yet to identify the man. Police were called to the scene around 6 Tuesday evening after witnesses reported multiple gunshots. The incident occurred on Boulder Creek Drive, just north of Lake Boulevard.

A neighbor told KRCR-TV that the man was shirtless, acting erratically and appeared to be under the influence of some substance.

Redding police told the Redding Record Searchlight that the man entered and exited his apartment 10 or 15 times before they opened fire. It is unclear if the man was armed when he was shot.

Earlier attempts to diffuse the situation through negotiation and the use of less than lethal force were unsuccessful.
