There's a higher than usual likelihood that wildfires will occur and become significant events in the North State this July, according to a monthly predictive report created by the National Interagency Fire Center.
The National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook attributes the above-average fire potential mostly to the effects of long-term drought on fire fuels as well as early July weather patterns that are favorable for lightning.
June was significantly warmer than usual and precipitation was below normal across much of the region, excluding the Northern Sierra and eastward. July has started off hot and minimal summer precipitation is expected.
