A firm preparing an environmental study about a proposed elephant sanctuary in Tehama County has now been tasked with creating a “Specific Plan.”

According to the Red Bluff Daily News, the amended agreement was approved yesterday at the Tehama County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The Specific Plan would be created by HDR Inc. and would be used to methodically enact the goals and objectives of the Land Use Element of Tehama County’s General Plan in specific areas. It would most likely include recommendations for specifics at the preserve such as fence height and buildings, as well as ways to conserve and develop natural resources.

The Specific Plan reportedly costs $25,000. It will be paid for by the Tembo Preserve project applicant, Roger McNamee.

The proposed elephant preserve would be home to 40 African elephants. It would encompass almost 5,000 acres where the former Diamond Ranch was located, northwest of Bowman Road and slightly north of State Route 36 West.
