Butte Supervisors To Hear Housing Development Proposal

Butte County Department of Development Services

A proposal to build up to 2,700 homes on open rangeland about halfway between Oroville and Biggs goes before the Butte County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

The board is expected to approve final environmental documents for the development, dubbed Rio d’Oro. It’s being planned by Turlock-basedJKB Living. The proposal calls for high density housing and two commercial strips featuring a gas station and fast food, along with single family homes.

The project would be built in several phases, with the first 200 homes going up for sale in 2018. Developers have approached South Feather Water and Power for water service and sewage treatment by the Sewerage Commission Oroville Region.

The homes and other structures would rise on land between Highway 70 and the Feather River between Palermo and Ohpir Roads. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled to get underway in the Board chambers in Oroville at 1 p.m.
