Tom Kinnee

Host, Weekend Showcase

Tom Kinnee has been an arts enthusiast his whole life. He has been an actor, director, playwright and producer for many different North State theaters and has been teaching in the Theater Department at Butte College since 1990. Tom loves bringing the voices of a wide range of arts-creators to NSPR audiences with his program, Weekend Showcase.

This week on Weekend Showcase we visit Butte College's stage production of the musical "Sweet Charity" to talk with the director and cast.  We also hear from Chico singer-songwriter Aamir Malik singing his song for the Thanksgiving season.

This week on Weekend Showcase we visit Paradise's Theatre on the Ridge to hear from the director and cast of the musical "Big Fish," and we go to Chico's 1078 Gallery to talk with artist J. Pouwels about his politically activist paintings.

This week, Weekend Showcase talks with two artists showing works at the Orland Art Center's show, "Fields, Farms, and Fantasies."  We also preview a song from "Big Fish, the Musical" which makes its North State debut in Paradise this week.

This week we talk with a representative from Osher Lifelong Learning Institute about their upcoming bus trip to San Francisco's De Young Museum to see a recreation of the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exhibition featuring that event's original world-class artists' pieces, including works by Rodin and Monet. We also preview songs from "The Addams Family" Musical, a show that's opening in Oroville on Friday.

This week, we talk with a representative from MonCA (the Museum of Northern California Art) about its current pop-up gallery in Chico where you can see a scintillating selection of artwork from MonCA's diverse collection of pieces from top northern California artists.
